In acknowledgment of Truth And Reconciliation Day, we want to highlight the work a very important organization: the First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC). FPCC is an organization dedicated to “revitalizing Indigenous languages, arts and cultural heritage in British Columbia”. We were honoured to have been able to work with the people at FPCC to design their new offices located on the Tsartlip lands in North Saanich (W̱SÁNEĆ). We’ve included a few images of the project, that is strengthened by the amazing artwork displayed throughout the space but most importantly work that FPCC does. Here are a few links to check out:

FirstVoices.com is FPCC’s internationally recognized online Indigenous language resource that encourages communities to document their language for future generations. Teams can upload dictionaries, alphabets, songs, stories, words and phrases as well as audio and video to their community sites.

First Peoples’ Map of BC is an amazing interactive map that lets you explore the people, languages and culture of B.C.

Grants FPCC organizes a huge number of grants that provide support for people and communities to revitalize their Indigenous languages, arts and cultural heritage in B.C.

The First Voices project and Map both provide excellent interactive content to help to learn and appreciate the Indigenous languages of British Columbia.

Studio 531 architects inc. is located on the homelands of the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.
