Description
Studio 531 in Association with ULAC was the architectural prime consultant for Smithers Regional Airport Upgrade. Phase I of this 4 phases sustainable expansion of Smithers Regional Airport opened in 2018. The project includes an addition of new preboard screening space and 150 passenger hold room that is constructed of mass timber panels and columns. A geo-exchange system combined with displacement ventilation makes the terminal one of the most energy efficient terminals in North America. The design is organized to focus views towards the majestic Hudson Bay Mountains and transform the aging air terminal building into a contemporary regional icon.
